I'm a new Apple consumer and had my first experience with this keynote stuff and new releases.

I'm amazed how they managed things and could definitely prevent any information leaking prior to keynote!!

Is it always like that? Do they threat their employees to avoid leaking? It's really impressive!!!

Its a mix between employee pride, NDAs, and a team of blood thirsty lawyers.;)

Also probably that every employee has very attractive share options and that SJ drives home that the best way to ensure the share price goes up is to ensure massive impact at expos like MWSF. Every leak lessens the impact of an Expo, reduces coverage in the trade journals and lessens impact on analysts - all of which affect the share price.

One other factor: just like in the defence industry, rarely does anoyone outside of a particular team or department know much about projects inside that team or department.

Ok, but picture this:

1-You are working in this project... "Mactel project". Bring some work to be done at home....
2-Your wife wants to have sex
3-you say that you can’t because of this project...
4-so, she asks "What project honey?"...
5-Just to get rid of the problem (horny unsatisfied wife), you tell that it's this very important project about this new laptop with a short deadline – “But please don’t tell tell anybody”.
6-Next morning she just comment about this "new dark-silver looking laptop project" with her best girlfriend at the gim that tells to her boyfriend...and BUM! Huge Leaking!!! If you imagine thousands of people working in the same project it is VERY HARD to avoid any kind o leaking!!!

Avoiding leaks: Strategic Apple

Apple avoids leaks by working on all facets of their product lines.

They develop the iBooks, iPods, iMacs, etc and any new products simultaneously. Steve jobs just picks which ones are ready and have been developed enough to be released. Even more so, he picks a conservative lineup of products, while certain products may outshine others, there is a recipe to get full impact and attention for a product. (Apple is not alone at this, in fact any good innovative company have their own recipes of success with product releases, but unfortunately even good companies dont.)

Rumour sites may obtain accurate info, but find that the product maybe released a few months or even a year after. But more often than not, rumours are just that... rumours.

Apple is great at being very receptive and strategic when preparing for their product releases. Each release is a stepping stone that always have an ulterior motive:

MacBook pro (powerbook equivalent) paving the way for a MacBook (ibook equivalent.
iMac Intel Core Duo may lead to the renaming of powermacs into... iMac Pro (a quad version of Intel most eminent).

Leaks or not, it is paramount what we can expect from Apple... QUALITY. Very few companies maintain a level of innovation that ensures quality in their product, though most claim to do so (flaming windows right now, ahem).
