How can I activate my locked 2g iPhone on firmware 3.1.2?

I have a locked 3.1.2 first generation iPhone that is locked on firmware 3.1.2. If I run blackra1n, it will jailbreak and unlock successfully, but I cannot get past the lockscreen. I have just restored it back to 3.1.2, locked. My brother want to use it as an iPod. How can I activate it so it's main functions are usable? Thanks.

What do you mean you can't get past the lockscreen? If there's not a USB cable pointing to an iTunes logo the phone is already activated.

Just use Pwnage tool on the 2G.

What do you mean by "can't get past the lock screen"? Do you mean that you have the emergency-call-only screen? Or something else?

Yes, I cannot get past the emergency call screen with the iTunes logo and USB cable. I will try pwnagetool when I get home. However, when I tried restoring to a custom firmware earlier. I got errors 1600 and 1604.
