What's up all, I'm trying to figure out how to add themes to customize (i.e. sliders, battery icons, keypads, etc.) I know i can go into installer and get the few themes available in the themes(customize) folder but how about ones not available there? I found a site with nice icons and keypads but all the files are on the computer. How do I get those files onto my iphone? I have ssh up and running but I do not know where to put the files. Do I even need to use ssh or can I go about this another way? Please help!

You can use SSH.
Look into the directory /var/root/Library/Customize/
There You'll find a directory structure to put different stuff in (AppleImages, MuteImages, CarrierImages etc.)

Also You can find a lot of Themes available through Installer using iPhone Application Catalog.

Thanks, I got access to those folders guess I just don't know what to do. I suppose I'll check out your other suggestion. Either way, thanks for the help.

Learn about sFTP.

Customize has folders set up for those graphics so just upload them to your phone.

Don't forget to learn about setting permissions.

Halo, the site is appleiphoneschool.com. On the right hand side there's a tab for custom icons, wallpapers, etc. If you know how to implement these please get back to me with a mini walkthrough if you dont mind. If I come across another site with more icons I'll let ya know.

Im going to assume you're on FW 114 and a mac, but since you're not giving us any relevant info thats all we can do.

Both your computer and phone have to be onthe same wifi network

Log into your phone via sFTP (if you're on the mac use Transmit or CyberDuck).

Host (your IP address which the phone will tell you in the Settings>Wifi pane)
User- root
Pass- alpine

Navigate to var > mobile > library > Customize

Drag and drop the images into their respective folders

Set image permissions to 644

Seriously dude, do a little research.

folder directory structure list?

is there a list of the directory structure for uploading different skins/roms/etc? (/var/root/Library/?) I am wanting to change my dialer skin. I have the skin just don't know where to put it once I have ssh' into my phone.

If anyone can post a link to a list of the different paths and where to put stuff, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks for any direction:)

As I posted above:

Navigate to var > mobile > library > Customize

Drag and drop the images into their respective folders

Stop worrying so much and just do it. Look around on your phone because its all pretty self-explanitory (ie. you put Battery images in the folder called Battery images)

darngooddesign, my apologies for not addressing your previous post regarding learning sFTP. For some reason I only noticed halo's post, responded and have been too busy to check since then. No disrespect intended. To be more specific I am using a PC running windows XP. I am able to access the files you speak of using winscp (I believe that's the name of the ssh program). I have downloaded a keypad icon and a battery icon but have not been able to either appear on the iPhone or appear and not work (happened with the custom keypad, small image of it showed in customize, selected it, default keypad remained). I have not read anything about sFTP yet nor have I had a chance to access my computer since reading your posts so I'll give those suggestions a shot and let you know. Thanks for the help, should see whats good with this within the hour.

Here is a hint, at least on the mac side with Transmit.

If you are in the Dialer folder and drag the image over the permissions won't be correct; however, if you are in the parent folder and drag the image onto the dialer folder's icon it will set the correct permission.

In regards to your question, there are three things that might be happening.

1. You need to set the permission on the dialer image to 644

2. You need to restart your phone.

3. Customize doesn't completely work on FW 1.1.4, and you have to do a couple of hacks to make it compatible. Personally I'm just waiting for the next version, but just start researching how to fix Customize if you really want the current version to work.

Hey, followed all the instructions exactly, seems like I'm doing the right things but it's still not fully working for me. I got the wallpaper to change in summerboard but I cant get the custom icons to work in summerboard and cannot add custom keypads in customize. I have been doin my research man, maybe I just don't know the right places to look but I've spent every moment available over these last 4 days to try and figure this out. Designer you make it seem like its easy to find this type of information...please, if this is the case for you, share with me your resources because I am having one hell of a time myself. I appreciate the info, all sounds good but whether it be my fault or the program's, its not fully working for me.

Thanks for those tips, I had write this last post late last night and must have fallen asleep before posting. Woke up and just hit post not seeing your post this morning. Thanks for the help, I think I'll end up doing the same as you and waiting it out. Thanks again for your time and patience.

If you are still having issues with themes just install a theme from Installer and see how its set up, including permissions. Make sure that the theme works properly in 114 because it would be silly to match one that doesn't work.

Design
Gotta thank you for all your help, finally figured this thing out, well at least partially. Your last bit of advice was what did it, I should have thought of looking at the structure of the working themes myself, woulda saved a lot of hassle but either way thanks for the heady advice. The deal was this: I had my theme folder in the correct place and my icons were formatted(?) correctly but I had to add an additional icons folder, putting my icons in there while leaving the wallpaper, doc, and mini doc. I believe i was reformatting(?) all files in my theme's folder to 0644 (including my created icons folder). This was a problem because apparently, while the wallpaper, doc, icon images inside the icon folder, etc. has to be 0644, the icon folder itself has to be 0755. Maybe this is an obvious mistake, I'm not really sure, but like I said, I'm a true youngin when it comes to the technical aspects of all of this. I'd love to learn how to take control of this thing but im just learning the basics. I appreciate your help with helping me learn something something though, hopefully if anyone else is having a similar problem this will help. Still haven't gotten custom customize icons to work but I'll fiddle around some more and post if I stumble across anything.

Haha, hey design, I was looking through some custom themes and came across your name. Saw a pretty ill safari icon you made but the link was dead. You got a site with your stuff posted?
