Any one here manage to make it work out?

I want to do some web design and earn some money.
My family really need some extra £££ right now to help with the whole
"house project"

I know html/css and php. I have basic photoshop skills.

But I can't decide what to do next.
Can someone give me some advice?

selling your soul to satan seems to work, of course this will kill any passion you have for this profession, but hey, it pays the rent

Tell everyone you know that you are a web designer/developer. It's amazing how many times, when you tell someone you do websites, they tell you "Oh, I know someone who is looking to get a website done." Word of mouth is the best form of advertising. You have to give it time, though. Do whatever you have to do to build up a portfolio (i.e. work for free, work for food, etc.) so people can see that you know what you are doing. If you do a good job for someone they will let others know about it. Bonne chance!

Thats hard to do when your french sucks. I would like to do some sites for people in the uk.
I guess I could come over on the euro tunnel if I have to

Get a portfolio together of your best work, and back it up with client testimonials. Then decide on how much you're going to budget for marketing in order to gain interest into your work. You can find literally hundreds of forums around where people are asking for work, but the majority of these will purely look at price, not the value that they'll receive. This means you'll more than likely enter a bidding war and end up charging at least half of what you originally anticipated.

Just begin by understanding who your market is. If you're after the low-end, then realise that price will be a major factor. Begin cheap, and offer a certain number of pages for a specific price and see how you get along.
