surely a soft focus pic has to maintain the hard egdes of the original pic as well as the blur, nothing in modes produces that effectcrees! said:These are your blend modes. http://www.photoape.com/album/photo/index.cfm?albumID=3444&photoPage=1

crees! said:What you do is duplicate the layer of the photo, image, whatever. Blur it just a little. Then cycle through the blend modes (cmd/ctrl-+) and use a low opacity. You can also apply a mask and use a brush with a soft edge. Maybe you haven't gotten that far in PS yet but when it was announced that Flash was incorporating blend modes into Flash 8 practically all us designers crapped our pants and gave each other a high-five afterwards.

This uses a couple of layers with "Soft Light" blending.
Layer 1 :Original image, colour corrected, background blurred.
I think he masked the doll so that it does not get affected by the Gaussian blur filter.redAPPLE said:you lost me there. how did you blur the background, without blurring the doll?

raggedjimmi said:Exactly the way I do it. Though, depending on the image colour and content I might use something instead of basic 50% opacity. Maybe overlay or hard light.
