Yes a rectangular semi transparent bar comes up with the subtitles which I do not understand the necessity of having it, what a freak invention of apple.

You can't. But I have read here that is not in the iOS6 update. So there is hope for the future.

There is no way to disable the greay bars/backgrounds that comes with the subs. On iOS 6 the subs seem to be like the Netflix subs (ie no grey bars).

Yeah, but at the moment the iOS 6 Beta1 puts all subs on the top of the screen instead of at the bottom. The Beta is also a bit unstable from what I could tell, and thats why its called a Beta
