how can I download mail attachments (gmail IMAP)?

I want to be able to download mail attachments directly to a folder on the iPhone, specifically audio files and PDF/doc and then be able to play/view them, without having to reload them. Either through the iPod or something like the pdf viewer.

Any suggestions or am I asking for too much too soon?
