How can I find out if my 2009 Mac Pro has two CPU sockets or one?

I heard some 2009 MPs (4,1) were sold with single socket boards but some were also sole with dual socket boards but with only one CPU. Mine only has one CPU, but it's a single quad core. My old 2006 MP1,1 had 2 X dual core 2.66's
How can I tell if mine has a dual socket board?
(I want to upgrade to dual 6 core procs and the upgrade person wants to know if it's a single proc board or not. Costs more for single proc board upgrade to dual)

Just open the case, and then you will know.

Anyway, most likely your Mac Pro has only one socket, otherwise, the fan will run at full speed.

All dual socket 2009's have dual CPUs.

None were sold with only one installed. If you were to only install one CPU in a 2009, the machine would boot, but the fans would go crazy and spin up to near jet takeoff level thrust.

If you want to double check, pop off the side cover on your machine and look at the CPU tray at the bottom. If you see one long heatsink, it is single socket. If you see two large and clearly separate heatsinks, it's dual socket.

Thanks all. I'm a single... rats... thought the 09's were like my old 1,1 2006 MP... that was dual socket, 2 X dual cores and thus 'quad'... with the ability to go to dual quads... didn't know the 09 wasn't like that.

you can buy the tray for dual socket, but it's around north of 300 bucks not including the cpu or heatsinks i think
