I tried installing it from the Settings app a few times and it doesn't work.

Download the full installer, from your App Store. When the download is complete, the installer will auto-launch. Quit the installer at that point. Use the downloaded installer app to create a bootable USB installer.
Change the boot settings on your MBPro to allow booting from an external drive, then boot from your USB bootable.
and, continue with an install. That should update your system very nicely.
You CAN just let the downloaded installer run, and do the update that way. But, the downloaded installer app will be deleted during the install (the installer cleans up after itself!). It might be nice to keep the installer that you just downloaded, just in case you need it in the future. You can save a copy of that app to an external drive, if you want to keep a copy, then continue with the upgrade install.
That should work fine.

Just for info, Silicon macs do not need Startup Security settings changed to boot an external, unless booting an older (hence less secure version of macOS). T2 Intel do but not silicon.

Good to know, I wasn't aware of this detail.

PS: It's "Apple Silicon", you can't just say "silicon" because (nearly) all computer chips are made out of silicon, including all Motorola, IBM and Intel processors ever used in a Mac.
