How can I get itunes to see my ipad?

I got three quarters of the way through updating when it failed. Now my ipad is stuck in a continuous loop - Apple logo, spinning wheel, Apple logo. If I unplug it, it will eventually turn off. When it's plugged into my Mac itunes doesn't see it.

Is there anything I can do to make itunes see my ipad please?
