How can I get some sort of persistent calendar alert?

For upcoming events - I have badges set on, but none ever appear, I have banners set to persistent, but they disappear after the event time, events show in my Notification Center, but they disappear after the event time.

If I miss a calendar notification sound, and don’t happen to pick up my phone within a few hours of the event time, then I miss the event and forget to do what I had planned to do, until I happen to check my calendar for past events.

How can I get a permanent/persistent notification or badge for a regular event?

Why is there an option to have a badge for an upcoming event, if that functionality doesn’t actually work? Is this not a bug, could I report this to apple?

I don't know how to get "permanent/persistent" notifications for calendar events. Alternative-type workarounds would depend on where you calendar is hosted…and I don't know any good workarounds for iCloud calendars.

Currently, you can set five different notification times as default for all events in a Google calendar. Multiple notifications is one of the features I use myself with Google. iCloud, Outlook.com, and Office 365 give you one default notification.

I also found it annoying when Calendar notifications disappeared when the time for the event had passed. I switched most of the events for which I want a notification to appear until I take some affirmative action to the Reminders app. Those notifications continue to appear in the Notification Center until you mark the item as completed in the Reminders app. Not sure if this solution will work for you, as most of this type of event for me are reminders to look at and pay a particular bill, so I just need a date for the reminder and not a specific time or place.
