Before 3.0, as we all know, you could hard reset any app to free it from the memory by holding down the Home button for a few seconds.
I find my 3.0 iPhone 3G lagging a lot more now, because I cannot hard reset some apps, like Mail and iPod, and the Free Memory app is constantly showing less then 3 MB free, so I can't free memory anymore either.
Is there another way to hard reset apps, or has that function been dispensed with?

hold down the sleep/wake button until the red slider appears, then hold down the home button.
