Bumping this. Same problem. The page @supernet33 cites says:

  1. Select the email address that you want to import mail from, scroll down, and select the Import Mail button
I also don't have an Import button show up. Migrating from Google Workspace.

Personally I wouldn't trust an automatic import. I haven't set up my custom domain yet but I've already transferred most of my email to my iCloud account. Just make sure both accounts are logged in on the Mail app (Mac/iOS) or Thunderbird on PC and then you can drag and drop emails and folders between the accounts.

It also says "Not all email providers are currently supported" and there's no list that I see.

I suppose this guy wouldn't have documented a long process if he could have pushed a button to do it:

In my case I read everything I could find on how to move my Google Workspace mailbox to iCloud+ and ended up using IMAPSYNC (https://imapsync.lamiral.info) as a solution. It worked flawlessly!

The only drawback now is the DKIM signing of custom domain emails. It only works when sent from Mail.app (Mac or iOS), which is quite frustrating. It's unbelievable that Apple doesn't fix such a basic problem.
