Hey guys, see the picture below for an alright (hey, it was difficult) panorama of my room.

How can I improve my room? It's rather old, especially the windows, paint job and carpet, and I'd really like to update it. I've given it a new desk, monitor, notebook and HDD, but other than tech-wise she needs a facelift.

Be brutally honest. What would you do?

Some changes I have in mind:

Add an Mstand
Logitech MX Revolution -> Magic Mouse
Paint job?

Not sure, It's not the best picture but my room is getting done right now and I painted the walls and I put a giant vinyl mural on the wall its 14 feet wide and 9 feet high and I just got a glass desk for my macbook that will be with a 27 inch iMac once I get around June. I would do some moving around maybe paint some stuff.

Who chose the yellow walls? Very mustardy...

And I would remove the metal tattoo thing on the wall as well.

Blinds are always good too!

Is that a motivational poster? Yea, get rid of that.

Haha, j/k.

I'd look into a more modern style with metal accents. I've found good examples in the "Post your Setup" threads in the Pictures forum. Target, surprisingly, has really cool accessories and bedroom accents.

I would say paint would be your best bet. i like some of the brown/ chocolate colors on the comforter try one of those. I am leaning toward the darker brown.

This is his room, not an apple shop. :p

Paint the walls a different, more personal color. Don't go too dark though. Also, if you paint the room in a light color like blue or green, put up posters or black and white photographs. Nothing too fancy. You could also put up drapes in colors that work with your walls.

Mount some shelves onto the wall above the dresser, but only after painting the room. If you don't want to paint the whole room, paint the door at the very least (I recommend painting the door white).

Thanks a lot, guys. That gives me some things to ponder. :D

What color would you paint it? I kinda like white, but I'm not sure.

Painting your room white can be both good and bad.

The good:
• Brightens up the room
• Makes it seem larger

The bad:
• Brightens up the room
• Room feels colder
• White walls get noticeable dirty and scuffed very quickly

Keep these things in mind when deciding on a color. Personal experience has shown that white is not the best color. My room is currently slate blue. Gives it the slight color I want but it isn't too vibrant.

Brown would be a good color, but has the reverse effects of a white room. Just some things to consider :)

Get rid of the antique looking headboard for something more modern looking.

I painted one side of my room deep midnight blue and left the other side the stock pale yellow. It made the room feel like two different spaces. One side is extremely luxurious because of the dark smooth paint. (my work area), and the other side is very relaxed. :)

I painted my closet doors the same colour as my walls too. It made the room feel larger.

Remove beds, dresser, other extraneous objects. Move Mac to more prominent location in room. Surround with candles. Really comfy chair. Pray to the Mac often.

Seriously, style is subjective. The Y]yellow with white trim is kinda garish, but it goes with the headboard/comforter. I do like the color mentioned above. And yes, unless the motivational poster summarizes YOUR mantra, I'd ditch it for some nice art print.

Here's something I've always done to my room: move the desk OFF the wall. I put my desk in the middle of the room, typically facing the door in some fashion. At the moment, I can see both the door and the windows at the same time, with my bed across from it. This allows me to have a less boring view, and talk to people as they come in (ala manager's office).

This is a pic of my old room at school. I don't live there anymore, but the layout is similar. Yea, I'm messy sometimes. That's my buddy being very productive with a paper plane. The door is to the right of the picture.

I think the room is very empty, especially on the walls.

I started photographing stuff a few months ago, I made 40x60 prints from the best of them (in cm!! :p) and am currently busy making 3 plexiglass frames to put them on my wall. What I want to say here is... because I created everything myself, I get twice the satisfaction

If you are in to something like this, you can do that for yourself too. And believe me, walking every day into the room where all the "art" is made by yourself is just plain awesome.
