How can I make a playlist with podcasts now?

Aloha everyone,

I used to enjoy listening to a playlist of podcasts I create every morning, on my way to work every day. I spend anywhere between 45 minutes and an hour each way (yes, I have to travel the most congested stretch in the US - the "Middle Street merge"). Anyway, Apple decided to redo the podcast app, and I, for the life of me, can not figure out how, if it is even possible, to create a playlist of podcasts that will simply play them one by one, as was the case before this new podcast app.

Does anyone know if this is possible, and if so, can you also let me know how to do it? I've been all over the app, and still can't find a way to do it. What I noticed is that I can still drop the podcasts into the playlist I created in iTunes, and iTunes will add those podcasts to the Podcast app, but the one podcasts that play in turn are the multiple episodes for the same podcast (e.g., I have two episodes of The Mac Cast, for example).

I really like Apple and their products, but this is really annoying. I'm not going to jump ship to Windows or Linux or anything crazy like that, but I really enjoyed just sitting back and driving, without having to worry about going back to the Library, then the Podcast listing just to get to another podcast.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

What a pain. I'm fine with the existing setup so didn't download the new app.

Can you just delete the Podcasts app, and perhaps it will go back to before (with the old player?)

I still use the music app to listen to my podcasts. The podcast app for me is just to subscribe and download. I don't like the user interface on it at all. You can create your playlists in the music app like before and not even touch your podcast app.

But, I have an hour commute from Orange County to Hollywood/Studio City/Burbank and I listen all the way to work. I switch to the next podcast only a few times s they are hour long podcasts. Do you really need to switch that much?

When you download podcasts through the new app, are they available to the regular Music Player?

In any case sounds like OP can go on as before with the regular Music app.

Thanks for all the responses. After I downloaded the Podcast app, I noticed that the podcasts in my playlist only showed up in the Podcast app. Thinking that Apple was going to go that way - separate podcasts from other iTunes content - I wanted to at least try that app.

I took your suggestion to simply delete the app, and once again, the podcasts in my playlist show up in the Music app. To answer another question, there are times I would have to switch between apps if using the Podcast app. Mac OS Ken's podcasts last around 15 minutes, and if I start a longer podcast, but don't finish it before I get to work (then resume on the drive home), I'll have to switch from that podcast to the next podcast while driving home.

If podcasts are made into a separate app permanently sometime in the future, I hope Apple at least gives us the opportunity to continue using playlists for listening to podcasts. The other thing I did not like was the inability to delete individual podcasts from each group. For example, I had two Mac OS Ken podcasts and two macWorld podcasts. While I was able to delete the entire podcast group, I was unable to delete the podcasts that had already been played. Apple should fix that one as well. I guess I am just not the atypical Podcast app user.

You can have both without losing functionality in your music app.
