I'm looking to reduce the number of CDs I've got to take to uni (mostly multi disc games) to play via boot camp. I'll be using a external drive and a virtual drive to play them.

I've been able to make a .bin and a .toc file; but can I use the .toc on virtual drive on windows? Any idea on a application that could make a .cue with the .bin?

I usually just use dd from Terminal to make an ISO file, and that works fine for most discs. However, ISO and BIN/CUE don't usually work for many games that are copy protected, so it's of limited value.

In that case, Alcohol 120% or 52% (on Windows) are your friend.

I do also find creating a dmg and then converting using:

hdiutil convert /path/file.dmg -format UDTO -o /path/file.iso

is another good terminal command. However it needs to be a dmg first and while you could create a dmg of your disc under Disc Utility, I'm not sure on Windows compatibility and the successfulness of the project as a whole.

There's a handy open application called Firestarter FX.

You can get it here: http://www.projectomega.org/firestarter/

When creating an image file from CD it saves two files: .bin and .toc. However when creating an image file from files/folder it has an option to create .bin and .cue (the other option is .iso). Perhaps you could drag the cd contents as files and then create your .bin and .cue. However as bala said, if you're trying to backup games, then this might be a silly idea since there is is a lot of copy protection.

You said you'd be using a virtual drive to play these files. Could I be guessing that you're using Toast? I assume your problem is becuase toast only emulates .iso and .bin/.cue files. I'm curious if you've found another virtual drive program for the mac.
