How can I make iPhoto run faster?

greetings,
Can someone tell me if there's a trick to making iPhoto run and respond quicker. It's been really sluggish lately and I'm working on 1 Gig of ram and no other applications running. I have a great deal of photos so I'm assumming that's it, (826 to be exact). By clearing some off would that speed it up or could it be something else?

My photos are about 700 k each.

I have about 3000, and I found that turning off the border in the prefs helps no end!

Thanks a lot. I had the drop shadow border on and turning it off really made it quicker already. If there's anything other tips out there than I'm all ears.

iPhoto is horrendously slow on any machine. It crawls on my dual 1.25 with only a few hundred pictures. You'll just have to wait till Apple updates it to get speed improvements.

iPhoto caches all the pictures in the library at start up. so more pictures you have, the slower it will be. (it hasn't helped that higher MP cameras have gotten cheaper...)

turning off the drop shadow should help, as other pointed out.

trash should be emptied.

and split your library. versiontracker -> iphoto library manager.

i keep all of my libraries under 300 MB and iPhoto runs well for the most part.
