In order to maximize battery life and lifespan:
Never keep MacBook plugged in all the time or charge the battery at 100%.
Keep the battery level as close to the middle: 25% to 75%, to effectively prolong battery life.

Any other helpful tips.
Thanks in advance.

I'd say you get the best battery longevity by having it plugged in most of the time but managing your battery levels either with the built in 'optimize charging' feature of macOS or with AIDente (https://github.com/davidwernhart/AlDente) if the default macOS one doesn't work for you.

If you limit your charge to 70 - 80% when plugged in, then you get the best of both worlds. Your battery will experience minimum wear as the power will bypass it most of the time, aside from some trickle charging.

My 2016 MacBook Pro 15” is now on its third battery.

Each previous battery has degraded to the point of swelling so badly the bottom scraped on the table and the keyboard was double-typing letters.

I installed the Big Sur beta and enabled Optimized Battery Charging shortly after the last battery replacement and it seems to be working well for me.

Beyond the software check-ups, I’m also cognizant of what typing on the keyboard feels like when the problem starts and I’m periodically shining a flashlight under the bottom to ensure it’s still flat.

Everything seems to be staying healthy when I’m not doing anything special beyond ticking that “optimized battery charging” checkbox.

I looked into AlDente, but figured I should at least give Apple’s solution a chance.

Has anyone done any long term comparison testing between the different options?
