Hello all.

So currently I've been watching my digital movie collection (mostly .dvdmedia files created by RipIt along with some mkv or avi files) by connecting my HDTV and MBA via a HDMI to MDP cable that I got from Monoprice some while back.

It works just fine. I don't mirror my display. I drag the video file to the TV screen, go fullscreen with VLC, and it works just fine.

I am curious however if there was a way where I can mirror my MBA and HDTV displays and then just play my video file on my TV without having to connect any wires between the MBA and TV. Ideally I'd like to know if a STB exists that can help me achieve this. I know of course that I can do this with an ATV however I have no desire to encode the file just to get it to play without having to attach any wires. I'd rather just go my current route which requires no encoding.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion has Airplay mirroring to aTV. Of course, if you're not a developer, you'll have to wait until summer.

Another option is to use an HDMI wireless transmitter/recevier device. It's bulky and ugly, but there's no wires between the MBA and TV.

The potential Mountain Lion option is a lot more enticing to me. Maybe I'll just wait to see what ML has to offer this summer. Thanks.

Edit: Apparently here is my answer. That's awesome, I just hope I can eliminate any black bars (as pictured) and fill the screen with the movie instead.
