I am having problems with my work Gmail IMAP account. Lately the inbox only shows a few emails from the last few days and emails from 2018 and older, nothing in between.

If this were on macOS I would rebuild the mailbox. But I cannot figure out how to do that on iOS.

I have tried completely deleting the account restarting the phone and re-adding the account. But the problem remains

If iOS deletes all files related to the account when removing it then something like a "rebuild" wouldn't be necessary… but I don't know if anyone has information on what happens when you delete an email account in iOS.

There isn't a "rebuild" equivalent in iOS.

How are you connecting to the account…is it a Google Workspace account with Exchange Activesync or is it just set up like a regular Gmail account?

It is set up like a regular Gmail account.

I recently abandoned my free Google Workspace email hosting when "free" ended so I no longer have a Google hosted email account I check. I've never seen that behavior, though.

I'm thinking if something is actually fouled up on the iPhone (and it happens) you'll probably have to restore it as new then set it up all over again…not restore from a backup.

Thanks! Setting up the iPhone anew is too much of a hassle for me right now. I think I might just try to ignore the problem for now.

Have you tried deleting the email account from your iPhone and then reboot and then adding it back?
