Hi,

I have WhatsApp "messenger" installed which works fine but "appstore" tells me that there is an update available for WhatsApp "desktop". When I click "update" it will be downloaded, installed but ends with an error message.
How can I remove this "WhatsApp desktop" from telling me that it's available for download?

The image you posted clearly shows an update for WhatsApp Desktop and it wound't appear if it wasn’t already installed.
Both apps, WhatsApp Desktop and WhatsApp Messenger, appear in /Applications simply as WhatsApp. If you have both installed, one should be in a folder named ‎WhatsApp. The Desktop version is about 328MB, the Messenger is about 411MB.

It's not installed. Only the "messenger".

If you move WhatsApp into Trash, does it still appear as an update in App Store?

WhatsApp Messenger? I uninstalled it. Did not help. WhatsApp desktop is not on my mac and it can’t be reinstalled cause I can’t find it in AppStore and the „update“ ends with an error message.

The WhatsApp desktop app doesn't appear on the list of "purchased apps" 🙄

In the updates section, if you click on the name of the app it should open its page.
Check in /private/var/db/receipts if you have desktop.WhatsApp.bom and desktop.WhatsApp.plist and delete them.

Thanks! indeed those two files were available. I deleted them but WhatsApp desktop still appears in appstore and wants to be updated 🥴

Finally! I deleted "com.apple.appstoreagent" under "~/Library/Caches/"

Do you have a dual-boot system or use a previous internal drive as an external dive?

No I don't. It's a new M3 MBA so I never even have updated the OS to a next big version.

I had the same issues with Watsapp for macOS and the App Store:

AppZapped the AS App and redownloaded it from their website:

Thanks for all good advices and directions. Cheers
