It's not that bad, I don't really mind it as I didn't get them for the appearance... and I have been wearing them basically a lot every day... but somehow I got a real scratch.

Any recommended way to fix this at least a little bit?

I don’t know what exactly the finish is, but some automotive scratch filler would probably make it less noticeable. Just keep in mind you’re doing exactly that: Filling the scratch, not removing it, the latter of which involves lowering the surrounding substrate to even out the entire area. In this case you just want to lightly get some filler in the mark itself.

I feel your pain, but I also have to congratulate you for (I think) being the first with such a major scratch :/

Your first and most easy option is to make the scratch a bit darker, and not so obvious, you can take a pencil, sharpen it, and use that to infill the scratch.

next level would be wax kids pencils, and using a dark grey to rub it on the scratch, and remove the excess with a dry cloth.

your other option would be dark grey metallic grey paint, but you would need a steady hand. :/

Disassemble them, take both aluminium shells to a powder coating company and have them powder coat the exteriors a colour of your choice. Reassemble. 🤣

but seriously, a good body shop repair guy could likely do a good repair on them.

I found a budget solution... Here are my AirPods Max with the "TOLUOHU Headband Cushion" (amazon link) and "Geekria Silicone Skin Cover" (amazon link) on top of 12south discontinued Fermata stand (that can charge with lightening cable):

I don't like the way the "TOLUOHU Headband Cushion" looks, I also don't like how it prevents the knit mesh from compressing on your head. See how the headband is raised in the bottom image? I clicked to return the Headband Cushion to Amazon and they gave me a refund but told me I didn't need to return the item LOL.

Anyhow I am keeping the "Geekria Silicone Skin Cover" ... They smell chemically out of the box, and you can slightly smell it when you wear them. But I expect that to go away after a couple of days. I really like the Geekria Silicone covers. To me they look nice on the AirPods Max, and they don't clank when the ear cups bump together anymore. They feel nice to touch, and there is a small cut out for every opening on the ear cups. They are very tight on the cups so it's like a thin skin, but it also feels protective from bumps and scratches.

Can the Max fit back in their bra/case with those silicone covers on them?

Plenty of silicon cups on the market with a far greater range of colours.
Some start at £6.99.
I looked around. I like the black ones. Black is my color for headphone cups.

Actually, I think I would have preferred the blue AirPods Max top band with silver cups. But Apple wasn't selling that option, and I wasn't going to buy two just to get that combination.
