I am in an interesting situation, i am a younger collector of older Apple hardware, and do not have the resources to purchace...an actual OSX disk

I have tried internet recovery and the internet archive
Internet recovert kept saying my password was wrong though it was not, and all the images from the Internet archive i found were non-bootable or too large for a single layer DVD, i also tried a USB using TransMac on windows and that failed, but the iMac does boot into Recovery if that could help somehow

Thanks in advance!

Internet recovery WILL NOT WORK on a 2006 iMac. It's too old.

You'll need either an install DVD that must be:
- universal (can install on any Mac)
- specific to that model (can install on 2006 iMacs). Might be able to find one on ebay.

A bootable USB flash drive -might- work.

Edit:
check your "conversations" page.
