Do you know how to determine the week it was made?
I actually don't know how... But I would really appreciate it if you could tell me how.![]()
Settings>general>about> check serial numer. You will see 3 number, then the 4th and 5th are the week number.
So,
111 _ _ 111111
Thanks,
I did that and the 4th and 5th numbers are 41.
So does that mean it's possible? Or not...?
Probably gonna be a tethered JB for that phone.
You have a MacBook, check it yourself.
1. Connect your 3GS to your Mac and put it into DFU mode.
2. On your Mac, click the Apple Logo in the upper left corner.
3. Click About this Mac - More info...
4. Click Hardware - USB - USB High Speed Bus - Apple Mobile Device (DFU mode)
5. Look for the iBoot version under the Serial Number.
6. If the iBoot version is 359.3.2 or higher, you have the new one that can't be JBed.
To get out of DFU mode, remove phone from cable, just hold down the power and home button until you see the Apple, let go, phone will restart.
perhaps I am the one who is misinformed here, but I'm pretty sure you are confusing jailbreaking with unlocking. You can jailbreak it no matter what version of iBoot you have. You can't easily unlock the newest one though, it requires the tethered unlock, which looks like a major PITA to me.
All iPhones are jailbreakable and all iPhones are unlockable.
I bought it at the Apple store on October 24th.
I heard that the new 3GS's cannot be jailbroken unless tethered to a computer on boot.
Is there any way to tell if this applies to mine?
The new 3GS's and 3rd Gen Touch's are tethered jailbreaked
I have only heard that the new iPod touch is a tethered jailbreak. Where does it say the 3Gs is?
Apple Modifies Boot ROM on Revised iPhone 3GS Models to Hinder Jailbreaking
iPhones with this modified boot ROM can currently only be tethered jailbroken.
The new 3GS's and 3rd Gen Touch's are tethered jailbreaked
Yep, but jailbreakable nonetheless.
But that's a pain! Say I'm on vacation and my phone dies... Wouldn't I need a computer to turn it back on?
So you need all of that in order to boot a jailbroken iphone that died?
That's what I meant. But dang, that stinks (for people who want their new iPhone jailbroken).

My boot rom shows 359.3 but nothing after it.
Can it be jailbroken?
