I just need a clean install of Catalina. I hadn't done a fresh install in over 5 years and my computer was a touch wonky.

I didn't realize you cant select individual apps in Migration Assistant. I dont want to transfer all applications, but there are some like FCP X and Logic that have plugins and apps I want to transfer.

Is there any way I can transfer only particular apps and not others?

you're better off doing the migration, then cleaning up the mess on the new install. apps like logic & FCPX put support files all over the place. some apps can be copied from the apps folder, some might not be compatible with the new OS. but it will take you far more time to figure out what's what (ie, VLC can be copied, logic can't).

get everything migrated, update what needs updating... and you can get back to work.

EDIT: one last thought; if there are apps that you know are out-of-date, or you know you don't need.. delete them in advance of migrating (and make sure, of course, you do a time machine backup just before you migrate). then, less to sort out after the OS upgrade.
