My MacBook Pro (Mid 2015: MacBookPro11,5) recently had its logic board replaced. I was having some problems with the Thunderbolt port, so the flex cable was replaced.
Since the replacement of the flex cable, I keep on getting Pink, Blue, and White screens that freeze the machine. They occur intermittently, so I am worried that if I take it back to the store, they won’t be able to reproduce it. How can I narrow down what’s causing it?
This is what I have found so far:
Any ideas on how I can narrow it down? Is there any software I can use to detect the problem?
I am using MacOs 12.6.1 on an Intel Mac (MacBookPro Mid 2015).

This is what I have found so far:
- The pink screens occurred after I had done a clean reinstall and attached the Mac to an external monitor. It actually happened during setting up the Mac home account (after the clean reinstall). Therefore, I know it’s not software related.
- The pink/blue/white screen is more likely to occur when attaching the Mac to an external monitor and playing video.
- If I connect the Mac to an external monitor, disable “automatic graphics switching” and then play video, the pink/blue/white screens are less likely to appear. However, they will appear after a longer while.
- If I connect the Mac to an external monitor, then the screens do not occur when using Safe Boot mode (although of course, it's not possible to play video in safe boot mode).
- If the Mac is not connected to a monitor, then the screens are far less likely to appear, but they do appear occasionally. When this happens, nothing is connected to the laptop, not even a power supply.
- I have tried different brands of monitors, so I know the monitor is not the issue.
- Sometimes instead of a pink/blue/white screen, the mouse cursor will just become distorted and the display will become frozen. Then a black screen stating “Your Computer Restarted Because of a Problem” will appear. The system will restart but freeze on the boot screen.
