Right now I have an iPad Air 2 that is locked, that I originally set up for the my Grandma like 10 years ago using an old MacBook that I definitely don't have anymore.

She recently passed so a few nights ago was messing with the iPad trying to unlock it guessing any potentially important 4 digit dates/codes but after so many tries the iPad says in Spanish that "iPad is disponible."

It was I who originally set up the iPad 10 years ago but I definitely don't remember the 4 digit code.

I do have the Apple ID login for the account associated with said iPad, but I don't know how good that can help me.

If your issue is just with the passcode that could only be reset with the original computer it synced with back in the day. I might be wrong, what advice has Apple given you?

Reset instructions are here. You will need the Apple ID password originally used; if you have that you're golden. If you don't, then you'll also need to request activation lock removal here.

I was in the same situation with a few of my Dad's items.

Sorry for your loss.

The iPad did not have a passcode, so that was my way in to getting the apple ID password changed (took about three weeks for everything to clear).

Totally unable to get into the iPhone (6-digit passcoded), but I was eventually able to remove the Activation Lock, and re-set the phone.

Unfortunate, because the information IN the phone was ∞ more valuable than the phone, itself ;(

The older MacBook is another level of secure, altogether...that will have to be another story, for another day.

Subsequent to these events, I have been re-developing strategies to plan for when the un-planned/un-thinkable happens (in a heck of a lot more areas than just the digital).

Thank you everyone, I've connected the iPad to my Mac and its in the process of installing an update to unlock it. It says that if that doesn't work then I'll have to do a restore. If that's the case ill most likely have to enter my grandmas password. ill post back afterwards.
