I can it get it running in mirror and "extension" mode but I can't close my Macbook Pro without it going to sleep..

Can anyone help me?Is there no way to do this?

It will always go to sleep when you close the lid, but you should be able to wake it while the lid is closed - presumably you have an external keyboard and mouse, just press a key or move the mouse. Also, you must have AC power for this to work. It won't work on battery.

You have to have an external monitor, keyboard and mouse attached. Closing the lid will put it to sleep, and then you can wake it up again from the keyboard.

Linkety

Edit: Wow...help galore! That's the last time I go get a link for someone! :p

Also you can use the apple remote to wake it up. Handy when i'm using mine as a media center :D

Also, in the event it is a wireless bluetooth keyboard and mouse, you need to go into system prefs and then go to bluetooth and select the button that says allow bluetooth devices to wake the computer.

is there anyway to apply a screen saver or something to my MBP when im spanning the screen to my LCD hdtv? Basically, if im watching a movie in VLC in full screen on my TV, my MBP's lcd stays on.

why not just dim the backlight?

When you just dim the backlight the graphics card is still rendering to it .. so you have reduced performance on each display (with a reg macbook there is clear degradation of quality with internal + 20" external, but not so with just the external being used (aka closing the machine then waking it; it will ignore the internal display)
