Why the sudden need to challenge people's choices in software? These threads are condescending and judgmental, and frankly, I find them offensive.

The current crop of these threads include:
Why do so many youtubers pay for final cut pro?
Why do some continue using Microsoft office on Mac?
How can people use Safari?

I'd ask "why do you care"? I happen to use all three. I use them because I choose to use them for their features... and I pay for two of them willingly with money that I earn... again, what's the agenda here?

Maybe there's no "agenda" and it's just the way they are asking about software apps they notice people using.

For example, FCPX is rather pricey and that one's basis is "poor" YouTubers who don't seem like they could easily afford it. The MS Office one may be a person who assumes Apple's equivalents are just as good, so why would someone pay for MS Office on a Mac? #3: maybe they've had bad experiences with Safari and/or are somewhat programmed to favor some other browser as THE ideal browser. Someone coming over from deep entrenchment in Windows may expect a browser called Edge and have no concept of Safari... or Safari seems so different vs. the one they've known before it seems like a monumental change from the familiar to them.

It's only a challenge if the reader of the headline takes it as one. If they named you in the headline, it's a challenge to you. If it's generic "YouTubers" or "some" or "people", they could be talking about you specifically... or (much more likely) not you.

Just ignore headlines you don't like. It would be towards impossible to police all thread posters headline word choices forever after in the way you are describing. Else, ask MacRumors for a volunteer job to edit all headlines to your own tastes and maybe they'll put you to work.

I'd look beyond the title and read the opening post. For the second example you gave, about Office, the opening post read:

Are the apple equivelant apps such as numbers, keynote and pages not good or the same as Microsoft office?

I don't find that at all condescending, judgmental, or offensive. It was a genuine, respectfully delivered question. It was also a good question since the discussion was useful and enjoyable. You even contributed to that thread and didn't seem annoyed at the time.

I find those threads quite patronizing, and the person asking the question usually come across as being rather superior. There's a distinct whiff of "why are you using this hopeless piece of software, you heathen?" about them.

It's odd that some people can't understand that different people have different needs, and feel the need to share their lack of comprehension, ignorance and narrow-mindedness with the rest of the world. Some people think Safari sucks; others think it's perfectly good enough. Some people have been using Office for years at work, so are more comfortable using that than Apple's equivalents. What's wrong with that? Software is just a tool, and you use the tool that's right for you.

I don't think there's an agenda. Some people just can't get their heads around the concept that others don't have to share their views and preferences.

I wonder if Ferrari forums are full people people posting threads wondering why on earth people would want to drive a Ford or a Toyota?
