Here’s a start:

How can phones be improved even further?
Just look over your shoulder at what's been left behind:

1 - REPLACEABLE BATTERY This also goes for a myriad of other items, like styli, keyboards, numeric keypads - the list goes on…Many of them even have standard lithium rechargeables inside, which you can buy any day from Amazon & others - but you can’t get to them, so: toss the entire item because of a 5%-of-the-cost component. Shall we petition & boycott?

2 - UNBREAKABLE GRIPPY OUTSIDE. Slips out of your hand or pocket, falls & breaks. Slick is definitely NOT GREEN. The amount spent on repairing cellphone breaks & cracks each year is in the billions (check it out). Thin and shiny is sexy but “breaky”.

3 - AUDIO & SD MEMORY CARD SOCKETS. C’mon enhance usability, not sex appeal. Would you marry them for their makeup or for their dependability and how they treat you?

4 - PHYSICAL BUTTONS So we can use them in the dark and without having to find our glasses to look at the screen.

5 - FORGET ABOUT A MULTI USE SOCKET CONNECTOR which limits you to using only one peripheral / charger at a timer. STUPID lightning & OTG. Be generous, as you expect us to be with our money.

No, just no to most of these.

1, 3 and 4 would adversely affect water resistance (and some not really be helpful for most users anyway).

2 is a matter of preference. I prefer something not so "grippy". It makes the phone hard to remove from pockets. This way, everyone can choose their own adventure: Use the phone as is, or buy a case that adds grip you want.

As far as number 5, well, I think you have a lot of company there. Most people want USB-C. I don't care much either way, as my use case doesn't really ever need my phone to be plugged in (with the exception of CarPlay).

IMO
