Please can somebody help me because in order to try and fix my macbook since it now shows only folder and question mark i need to put installation cd in which i can't do until i get the other one out! Thanks a million!

Try holding down the eject key while the MB is booting. That should eject the CD.

the button under the trackpad counts as a mouse button. If that is intact, try:
1. Press the power button
2. Then press and hold the button underneath the trackpad.

Thanks but it doesn't seem to do anything. Has anybody got any other ideas?

Do you know someone else with an Intel Mac? You could try putting their computer into Target Disk Mode and booting your computer from it with a FireWire cable. Then the eject button might work.

You need to hold the trackpad button down for quite a while. As SOON as you hit the power button hold down the trackpad, sometimes it takes a couple minutes, so be patient.

You can also start up the MacBook holding option. When it finishes loading the available boot drives (probably none) hit the eject key. It should spit out the disk that is in there. Then just put in the install disk and click the circular arrow button and it should show up and be selectable to boot from.

Hi,

I'm having the same problem, in that I first turn on the MacBook, and I get a grey screen with a flashing folder icon with a question mark on it. Can anyone please tell me what is causing this problem, and how do I fix it without a re-install (I'm a naughty boy, haven't backed-up my stuff)???

Thanks for your help.
