When I first got the machine, it could fall asleep instantly. Recently, I found that even I choose "sleep" and the LCD is automatically turned off (with the light next to the cd slot blinking), the hard drive and the fan are still running. It takes awhile for them to shut down completely. Before I carry the laptop around, I have to put my ear next to the keyboard to confirm that the machine is really asleep. Is there any other good way of telling whether the mbp is asleep or not? I am under the impression that the more the open applications (especially with vmware fusion launched), the longer it takes the machine to really fall alseep.

Your machine does something called 'safe sleep,' in which the computer stores everything on its ram onto your hard drive. This allows the computer to have its battery removed, or drained without loss of data. Obviously, the more data there is, especially with large apps like vmware fusion open, the longer it will take for the data to be saved.

Doesn't it snore when it's asleep? The white light in the case latch starts pulsing?

I am now typing on my MBP but the light next to the DVD drive is off.
Also, when it is pulsing, the hard drive and the fan are still spinning.
Am I missing somethng here?

That's fine: when the dsplay is turned on, the light will be off.

The light SHOULD come on when the MBP is on but the display is turned off.

And the light should pulse when the MBP is sleeping.

Weird... mine doesn't pulse until fans and hard drive have spun down....

are u sure its a mbp and not a pc in disguise??? i dont understand how the sleep light could be on while everything is still going!!! it just doesnt add up!
