iPhone how can you undo jailbreak to restore official IOS?

I am pretty much a newbie, so please bear with me and keep it simple:

I have an Iphone 4s, jailbroke it with evasi0n on ios 6.1.1 six months ago and now have some bottom speaker issues (sound goes out randomly) that may or may not be hardware related so I want to exchange it as phone is still under extended warranty.

In short, itunes won't let me restore (ie automatic upgrade to 6.1.3) even if I try (I read that 6.1.3 doesnt have a jailbreak, but I will bite the bullet and run it without jb if I have to in future after exchange). How can I restore the phone so I can take it in to apple (knowing they reject jb phones)?

You should just be able to plug your device into iTunes and press "restore" and it'll restore to 6.1.3

Does it show any error when you attempt it this way?

The alternative is putting your device into DFU mode and click restore on itunes

Don't forget to back up to your computer first, then restore, and you can load up your last backup after that unless you want to start new.

I think the OP is trying to upgrade via OTA...

No, tried that itunes restore but it gets error , says my firmware isn't authorized or such (assumably because of the jb)

Can you post the exact error? Is it the same every time. It's probably an easy fix. iTunes can always restore a jailbroken device. The only exception is hardware failure.

Can you post the exact error? Is it the same every time. It's probably an easy fix. iTunes can always restore a jailbroken device. The only exception is hardware failure.

Tried restore with same error every time:
It goes to extract software, verifies with apple, then says "the iphone xxx can't be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build." More info link isnt helpful either as it just recommends generic list of things such as updating iTunes etc .

that page leads me to some general cydia page.??? is that what you mean by placeholder?

Yep, it means its not pointing to Apple so you cannot restore without getting an error.
Fix your Hosts file.

Your computer is "communicating" with Cydia server.

There are numerous tutorials on the Internet which will explain how to re-point your host file toward Apple

Thanks, that helped somewhat. quick update, wasn't easy to find, but finally managed to edit the file (don't know why it wont show in searchlight, had to access and edit through terminal, tip for others: use only directional keys to navigate cursor and hit CTRL O, then enter to save file, I simply put a hashtag in front of the last line with gs.apple.com).
However, now that I have a non jb phone, will apple be able to detect that it was jailbroken once (and thus void warranty)? Or am I good to take it in?
Finally, can I restore somehow the jailbreak afterwards?

No you can't. Restoring your phone will update it to 6.1.3, which is unjailbreakable. You cannot downgrade on a 4S.

Unfortunately no. If you wanted to keep the jailbreak you should have used Semi-Restore or ILEX RAT to wipe the device but keep the jailbreak.
