I am interested to know how the locking procedure takes places? Is it done manually- like unpacking and resealing the devices, or is it done somehow remotely? Whats the procedure? Thanks

Carriers have their discretion on unlocking and re-locking any device if the device haven't met their financial obligation in terms of financing or service. Carriers approve or deny unlock request but once approved they request it via Apple server to modify activation policy for the device.
