Hello everyone

I have a question - I own macbook pro a2141 ( 16 inch 2019) and I would like how to know how exactly the charching battery process works.
Recently I have check that in system report shows that charger is connected but battery is not charching eg in battery state 80% , 100%
Is that mean that macbook itself decide when to charge battery, and when to not charge ?
I noticed that sometimes this situation shows up the macbook is under bigger load

Please share Your experience

It’s a feature called Optimized Battery Charging:

  • Optimized Battery Charging: To reduce battery aging, have your Mac learn your daily charging routine. Then your Mac delays charging past 80% when it predicts that you’ll be plugged in for an extended period of time, and aims to fully charge the battery before you unplug.

Ok thanks for information. What about following situation: I have monitor with power delivery - but only 45 watts. When macbook is connected only to monitor, sometimes battery goes down, it says that it is connected to charger but not charging - so is it also optimized battery charge - and macbook is adjusting to this power? or it is not enough power to sustain the macbook and charging battery ?

If I remember correctly, your 16" MBP shipped with the 96W wall adapter which makes your 45W power delivery less than half. Under load and depending on the circumstances, 45W power delivery might not be enough to charge + power your MBP at the same time.

Yea, exactly - stock charger is 96W. Ok thanks - I was thinking this way that it is just not enough power
