does your ipad also have either an eSIM or an embedded Apple SIM?

Maybe thats whats activated. Unlike the new iPhones, iPads are not dual sim. So I believe if one is being used, the other is ignored

To expound on this, the new iPads do have dual SIM (eSIM+Nano). They're just not dual SIM standby or active.

iPads do change numbers, though (General - Settings - About). The thing is that number is only ever used by the carrier. You can't actually use the iPad's number for texting or anything.
