i was just wondering if any1 has any experience with an imacs body stregnth. are they tough and do the insides eg hdd ect wobble or move around when moving it. Please reply

I don't move mine around much, but it's aluminum, so it's sturdy. It's probably not good to shake it around, but I've never heard anything rattle when I've picked it up.

Why do you ask? Do you plan on moving yours around a lot.

Try to avoid dropping it down the stairs too often, it doesn't have sudden motion sensors for the hard drive.

I kid. But, everything inside the iMac is mounted on nice bushings or directly to the chassis. And its the best consumer desktop computer you can buy.

Unless you have the rage strength of the hulk, I'd say your iMac will be safe.

If you haven't bought one yet, wait until macworld (3 weeks time) as new models will be released.

Extremely sturdy, surprisingly heavy. If there was an hurricane I'm telling you it would wouldn't move an inch.

i was only asking because i wanted to know if i had the option to mave it around or if i had to keep it still to avoid ruining the insides. it sounds as though it should be alright.:apple:
thanks

I have a 24" iMac and it travels to my uni accommodation and back home again twice a year (in its box). It also moves from room to room in my house.

Absolutely no problems. Nice solid machine.

Also worth pointing out that even the 24" isn't a problem to lug around from room to room or to the car.

Hope that helps. :)

How are you so sure? What do you have to back up your theory?

I'm not so sure. I have the same thing to back up my theory as the people posting that there will be an update..... a hunch.

I'm basing this on a couple of things....
- the iMac is pretty solid, no need for some minor update
- I agree that the next update will include using NVIDIA chipsets
- I think that the next iMac update will include Snow Leopard

For the above reasons, I sure don't expect an iMac update in the next 3 weeks. Especially if the last two items are true.

It really doesn't matter to me if the iMac is updated in 3 weeks or 30 weeks. I just find it troubling when people post to others that they should hold off because there is an update coming at Mac World. Nobody knows this to be the case, and nothing that I've read implies it.

It's always a smarter decision to hold off when a major Apple event is around the corner. Especially when making a big purchase. Also, looking at the Buyer's Guide, it's time for a minor update.

Product: iMac
Recommendation: Don't Buy - Updates soon
Last Release: April 28, 2008
Days Since Update: 235 (Avg = 211)

I agree with all that say wait if you can, there is always something new just around the corner ...

I feel bad that I essentially derailed this thread into a "Buy now or wait" thread, mods please feel free to cut out the crap from this thread.

I've moved mine around a bit (not this one, the defective one prior to this one) as I moved it between apple store, home, fed ex locations. Man, the 24" iMacs are great machines, but oh so unwieldy.

I moved mine alot but its a g5, but they made bags (travel around) for them so that tells u that there sturdy like everyone else has said.

expensive, but worth it if you're always on the go.

i don't think they are delicate at all. i mean, are you using it in an RV or boat?

i'd like to see someone try to shake a 24" imac. they are solidly built.

No. I carry mine around to use it in different rooms of my home all the time. And I got wireless keyboard and mouse just to make that easier.
