This might be a dumb question, but is it possible for Facebook users to know what devices I use to access FB? The reason I ask is that recently I made a comment on a Facebook page and someone made a snarky reply that “you have an iPad, iPhone and PC…”. The thread had nothing to do with any tech related issues; it was a political topic. But they were right: I have an iPad mini 4, an iPhone SE and a Dell desktop.

So did this total stranger just make a wild guess? Or is there some way that any FB user can find out what devices I have? I realize that Facebook itself knows all kinds of things about me, I’m now wondering about the general public. (Mods, if this isn’t the right place for this question, no problem.)

Facebook would know, but the average facebook user probably isn't going to know. Likely they snooped through your profile to dig up something, or did just guess (they weren't specific)

I don't think people can tell what device you are using anymore, unless they hacked into your account and viewed your logged in sessions. (You can go into Settings -> Security and Login to see what devices you have logged into and where.) I would review this list to make sure nothing looks off, and turn on two-factor authentication if you haven't already.

I could be imagining things, but I believe many, many years ago, some posts would display what app was used when someone posted to their page, such as 'Facebook for iPhone', or 'Facebook for iPad', or 'Facebook for Windows Phone'. That isn't done anymore though, nor do they show up...so don't think that can be it.

As someone said, perhaps they snooped through your profile and found info giving this away...a comment you made in the past, a picture, or just a lucky guess / social engineering.
