Hi All,

Newbie question.

Is the below the best way to backup my iPhone onto my Macbook? (Using the "Apple way" of doing it.)

I found the below screenshot in Finder, when I clicked on my iPhone listed on the LHS.
It looks very similar to ITUNES options.

Do I:
1. Select "Back up all the data on your iPhone to this Mac"
2. Select "Backup now"

Questions:
Q1) However, where does Finder save the iPhone backup to?
Q2) Is it best to leave it to create the deafault path?

Hope you can advise
Martin

Finder took over the backup/syncing/restoring functions of iTunes in macOS Catalina.

Finder saves the backups to the Mac HD, to the same location that iTunes did/does. There's not a way to change the default path.

The setting to "Backup your most important data on your iPhone to iCloud" is the same as it had been in iTunes - it is not the "default path" - if you have enabled iCloud backups in your iPhone/iPad settings, then you will see that item selected in Finder/iTunes.

Even if you have that selected, you can still also backup to the Mac by clicking Back Up Now.

The actual backups are stored safely “under the hood” in the Library folder. If you want to know exactly where Google can tell you but... Unless you REALLY know what you’re doing you should avoid going there because the wrong move can seriously mess up the OS. Clicking the “Manage Backup” button (shown in your screenshot) will give you all the access to your backups that you would need.
