Can someone help me with changing the desktop icons? I've downloaded some icons. Actually i wan to change the macintosh hdd icon to a mac mini one.

some website gave these intructions but its not workin for me.
Here is a step-by-step guide for setting a folder icon:

1) Select a file or folder that has the icon you want to use.

2) Press Command-I to bring up the Inspector panel.

3) Click on the icon once. You should see a gray border around the icon.

4) Press Command-C to copy the icon. Do NOT close the inspector panel.

5) Select the file or folder that you want to customize.

6) Press Command-V to paste the icon. :D :D :D

Yeah, those instructions are slightly wrong. Step 2 should say to press Cmd-Opt-I for the inspector. This makes the panel show whichever file you have selected. Cmd-I results in a 'static' info window that doesn't change when you select other files.

That worked for me..

The command button is your little Apple. What you are essentially doing is a copy and paste of one graphic over the other.

on the icon you want
You need to GET INFO on whatever icon file you want to use, Select the little graphic on the top left of the get info window Apple-C to copy it.

on the icon you want to change
go to the icon of the device / file who's icon you want to change, GET INFO, then select the Icon in the top left , and apple-V to paste the image you copied from the previous icon.
