My AppleID used to be `FirstNameLastName@somedomain.com`

I recently changed my AppleID to `FirstName.LastName@somedomain.com`

However, my iCloud email address is still `FirstNameLastName@icloud.com`

I want to change it to `FirstName.LastName@iCloud.com` so the formatting matches.

Here's what I've done so far:

1. I went to iCloud Mail and in Accounts, I added the alias `FirstName.LastName@iCloud.com` I don't see a way to remove `FirstNameLastName@iCloud.com`:
2. I went to AppleID and added `FirstName.LastName@iCloud.com` to the Reachable At section. I see a remove icon in this email I just added but I don't see one for `FirstNameLastName@iCloud.com` and my AppleID email.

So, is there some intermediate step that I must do to change my iCloud email address?

Thanks

I just found another thread along with your comment at the very end: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/change-icloud-com-primary-e-mail-address.2326667

In that comment, you linked the following: https://support.apple.com/guide/icloud/add-and-manage-email-aliases-mm6b1a490a/icloud which states:

Note: You can’t delete or turn off a primary iCloud Mail address. You can’t use an alias to create a separate Apple ID, and an email alias can’t be converted to a primary iCloud Mail address.

So, it seems that this is not possible. Very strange why this is not allowed.
