How do I change the album of a track without opening iTunes - was easy on Windows

Here's the deal. I have a folder with maybe 20 or 30 songs by mobb deep. I want them to be part of an album called "mobb deep", but the majority of these songs are from different albums and mixtapes, and most doesn't even have the album title on them.

So on Windows I would simply mark all the files in the folder and right click, hit properties and then I'd be able to type in an album name. First of all when I mark 20 files on Mac and right click it'll open 20 windows instead of one window for all of the files (one of the dumbest things on OSX, I love everything else but this is mad stupid) - second of all I don't even think it's possible to type in the album name when right clicking an mp3 file.

So how can I change the album title on all of these files without doing it in iTunes? Reason I aint doing it in iTunes is that it'll be a pain to locate each song in there since they'll be labeled all wrong.

Edit: just figured I could create a new playlist in itunes and drag them all in there so I'm good, but if anyone knows how to do it the "windows way" please let me know :)

Not sure what you mean by this.. could you explain how they're 'labelled all wrong'? Do you have other songs within iTunes, meaning that because the metadata on these Mobb Deep songs is missing / incorrect you won't be able to find them amongst the other songs you have? You could use the "Recently Added" smart playlist to find the Mobb Deep songs if you've only just added them into iTunes, then edit the info that way.

Other than that.. why would you want to make the album title "Mobb Deep" when you could just put all the correct album titles in? :rolleyes:

Just a tip, if you right click on a group of files to bring up the contextual menu, you can then hold the option key and choose "Show Inspector" to view file properties all in one window, rather than 20 separate ones.
 
1. Highlight all the songs that you want to have the same album.
2. Right Click -> Get Info
3. Enter / Change whatever info you want
4. Click OK

Even though I have it fixed now here's what I meant. As for how they were labelled wrong, here's what's up. I found this old mobb deep folder from way back. It's a bunch of unreleased songs, songs from mixtapes and such. Since they haven't been released on a real album I just want to put them on an album called "mobb deep", cause I always browse my music by album title so this is just an easy way to access these old mobb deep songs.

My problem was that each song was corresponding to one certain mixtape and in many cases there were no artist ID. So if I open +20 songs in iTunes then I would have to find out the name of each mixtape and rename the songs one by one. When I used Windows I would simply mark all the mp3's in my old mobb deep folder, right click and go to properties and in here I could change the album title within the file. THEN I would drag all the files into iTunes and they'd already be part of my "mobb deep" album.

Since I can't do it the windows way (doesn't seem you can change the album title by right clicking an mp3 file when in finder) I create a new playlist in iTunes. Then I drag all the mp3's from finder into this new playlist and then I can edit the album title and all that stuff. So it's all good now :)

Make a new playlist, drag the files from the folder to the playlist (adds them to the library at the same time). Rename them in the playlist making any/all correctionsin there. Delete the playlist. They will stay in your library and easily trackable this way :)
