I have just purchased a new apple tv 2 , i have connected everything up and it all works ok except that i am unable to play sound through my Denon S-301 home theatre it will only play through the tv speakers via the HDMI connection, i really would like to play the sound through my home theatre system but seem unable to get it to work through the optical digital connection, the old apple tv was ok as it had phono connections but the 2nd gen does not,can anyone please help me.

I have a Denon receiver and the ATV2 optical out works just fine. You should check that you have it set to the right input, and if so you may have a defective apple tv. No reason it shouldn't work.

hey man, you just need to make sure your receiver is set to show video only out HDMI, and Audio out Optical.

everything should work fine.

and i'm sure apple has even implimented that if both are plugged in the appropriate streams are sent.

Hi Aragorni,
I am not really sure what you mean ? what Denon unit do you have and what type of optical cable did you use ? I don't have a connection marked ATV 2.
I have the apple tv connectad to my tv on aux 3. How old is your Denon unit?

Hi ogs,
Sorry Mate ,i must be thick i don't understand your answer at all , do you have a denon home theatre and an apple tv 2?

Your Denon unit has one optical audio in, so hopefully your not using it for cable or sat, and even if you were, I would just go analog in from cable or sat, and go optical on the apple tv.

If your really needing it to go in analog, check monoprice for this. It is a Digital to analog converter. Works like a charm, but dont forget a short optical TosLink from the apple tv to the converter.

This also works great on receivers with HDMI, for use in Zone 2 audio..

Good Luck

Thanks BigAudio,
connected up to optical in with Toslink optical cable and it is working fine.
Thanks for your help.
