How do I convert PDFs to iBook format? on iMac?

Hi

I know iBooks for iPhone works with PDFs, but double tapping works on iBooks and not on PDFs. Is there a Mac (free) app to convert from PDF to iBook format?

Also what are the other advantages in having it in iBook format over PDF?
