Hi,

Just purchased an imac, and my external hard drive on my pc that contained my music library crashed. My entire music library is also on my apple tv. Can I transfer the apple tv library to itunes on my new imac, or transfer back to itunes on my old pc?

I dont believe you can transfer your Music from the ATV to your new mac. Do you have an iPod with all your music on it? If so, you can download an app called MusicRescue and it will transfer all the music from your ipod to your new mac. Hope that helps

I recently had the harddrive crash that contained my iTunes & iPhoto libraries as well. Unfortunately I did not have backups (I do now!), nor did I have anything on my AppleTV, I did have all the photos from my iPhoto library synced to the AppleTV and was able to get them back. The AppleTV as far as I could tell does not store synced content in a library, at least not for iPhoto. I'm not sure content synced from your iTunes library is going to be stored in a usable format that you could easily import.

I did e-mail Apple, and they allowed me to download all my previously purchased content. They did also give instructions to pull your purchased content from an iPod.

Fortunately, if you have an iPod or iPhone, and if you put your purchases on it, you can transfer items back to your computer using iTunes 7. You'll find instructions in this article:

Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer

I hope this helps!

The above link for the ipod is only good for purchased music and not all the other music and movie files you imported. That's why MusicRescue is the best solution to restore your media back into iTunes if you have an ipod with all the media on there.

Simple

Just synch the apple TV with iTunes running on your iMac. Whatever is on the apple TV (in this case, your whole music library), will then also be on your iMac.

If you can, do this via a wired ethernet connection - it will occur a lot faster.

Have you done this? Are you sure?

This sounds too easy based on what I have read. I understand Apple TV to be a one way synch except when it comes to purchasing iTunes from the store via Apple TV.

I realize this is an old post, but would appreciate a reply. Thanks.

There is no easy solution, but it's possible

You can hack your ATV, ssh into it can copy he files back to your computer.
check patchstick.ca for their product "Rescuestick"

Thank You!

Thank you. I came across the name before, but I am just now beginning to understand what it is.

Since I am going to have to crack open my box to extract my media files and void my warranty, I may as well install patchstick so I can enjoy other online content. It's not a total loss.

Why do you need to "crack your box open"? Installing patchstick doesn't require any physical modification to Apple TV, and it does not void its warranty.

My G4 crashed with all my music and photos. I need to pull them out of my Apple TV and it ain't going to be easy. :(....

Here is a link to FILE JUICER on how photos can be recovered.

There Is No Need To Open Atv !

Hi guys,

you DO NOT need to open your AppleTV and remove the hard drive !
The software solution of patchstick.ca will not void your warranty. You can just install it, recover your files and then restore your AppleTV.

Using patchstick/rescuestick

Just a little worried about a warning on the Patchstick site about not updating the firmware on the ATV before using Rescuestick.
Worried about inserting the bootable Memory Stick I created and not being able to avoid a firmware update...
any comments? should I worry at all?

rescuestick

Did rescuestick work for you? We are in a similar situation with our itunes library. I would be interested to hear how you got on.
Thanks.
