I have Photoshop CS3 and want to make my own backdrop using various concert photos I've taken over the years :) Please could someone tell me how I'd go about doing this using photoshop?

looks like one main picture, 4 seperate layers for each little picture and a layer mask overlayed for the purple coloring. pretty easy to do actually, probably about within 10 mins
 
There are a few things that certainly go into it.

Several Layers, Image Masking, and Color Adjusting. You'll need some version of Adobe Photoshop to begin. That's the place to start.
 
To me it looks like the the main big picture, 4 smaller pictures, 1 piece of small fabric scanned, another large piece of fabric as well (fabric could just be brushes though), colour adjustment and then a bit of brushwork.
