Hello everyone

My 2016 rMBP 13" OS X 10.11.5 just rebooted on me with absolutely no warning or sign.

Could someone help me and explain where to look in the logs and how to interpret the reason it did that?

Thank you!

I am in Console.
And I have All Messages highlighted in the left column.

I found a gap for a time which is probably the time when I experienced the sudden shut down.

The computer was charging to so I know it wasn't a low battery level issue.

Try looking in this folder for a crash report at the exact date/time this happened.

Code:
/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports

These are the only reports created in the last 24 hours, and they're merely "excessive system resource usage" reports, not crash reports.

Try the following:

  1. Open Console.
  2. In the left pane, select /var/logsystem.log.
  3. In the right pane, locate the point at which your computer spontaneously restarted, and then examine the immediately preceding messages for clues.

I am having trouble remembering the exact time.
Based on the other things I found above, I thought it was 5:53:03 PM and 6:01:16 PM.
I see a lot of activity for the entire 5:47 PM minute with nothing found before as far back as 5:41 PM
It exceeds the 7,000 characters posting limit.

Jun 28 17:41:37 rMBP13-2 syslogd[42]: ASL Sender Statistics
Jun 28 17:47:34 localhost bootlog[0]: BOOT_TIME 1467161254 0

then the next similar "jump" presenting a gap in the log (with no activity written for a while) is

Jun 28 17:49:58 rMBP13-2 kernel[0]: vmnet: VNetUserIfFree: freeing userif9.
Jun 28 17:52:08 rMBP13-2 com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (com.apple.auditd[562]): Endpoint has been activated through legacy launch(3) APIs. Please switch to XPC or bootstrap_check_in(): com.apple.auditd
