Here's the setup:

* Wife's MacBook running VM Fusion with WinXP sp2
* Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS)
* Brother MFC-9440CN connected to said base station

Now, Fusion works perfectly at her office, which is an all-Windows shop. No problem logging into the wireless network there, no problems seeing the various printers.

But here at our home office, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make her see the Brother MFC attached to the AEBS. Fusion itself "sees" the network, and uses it, but we cannot find the printer. I've installed Bonjour but no luck.

To backtrack, there was zero problems setting up the printer when we were running XP under Boot Camp. I installed Bonjour and it was just there. (To clarify; we no longer have a Boot Camp partition and are running Win XP sp 2 *only* via Fusion.)

I viewed the tutorials over at VM but could not find a solution. Everything they talk about assumes you are trying to set it up at one single location -- that you won't be moving the Mac again. I do *not* want to reconfigure her network settings or any of that since I do not want to frak up her connectivity at the office.

I'm kind of perplexed that VM doesn't have an option to use the Mac's chosen printer or to bring up the print dialog when you print in the virtual machine (kind of like VirtualPC used to do, IIRC). Or at least have a tutorial specifically on connecting to a printer connected to an Airport network (it is, after all, a Mac product; do they think only people in Win offices run Fusion?)

Short of buying her a dedicated printer to use in her office, I can't think of what to try next. It's enough to make me dump it and go to Parallels (or is this also an issue with Parallels?).

Any suggestions or real world experience with a situation like this?

I need to know how to do the same thing. When I go to print it shows "_#VMwareVirtualPrinter" but when I try to print from it nothing happens.

Thanks Santa Rosa that's exactly what I was wanting to know how to do.

However, I followed the guide and it asked for the driver and naturally it had all the drivers except the one for my printer. So I went to the HP website, done this thing to see if I had the driver, and it restarted XP! Completely undoing everything I had been doing in the wizard. Now when I try and go through the wizard again I get the error message "A port with that name already exists." Forget this crap, I could just unplug the printer from the router and plug it into my iMac before I'd ever have this junk set up. I'm just going to tell my medical software teacher that I could not print directly from my computer.

This is exactly why I switched.
