How do I fix the missing icon in the context menu?

Hi guys,
I might have deleted a file somewhere where the icon is referenced but I can no longer see a dot or checkmark next to selected items in the context menu - anywhere on my Mac.

I don't want to reinstall macOS just for this small missing icon, so any help would be appreciated.

Any advice?

Unless you know exactly what file you deleted to cause that and have a backup to restore it from, a reinstall is going to be the fix. You do not need to erase the drive or lose any of your data, just reinstall Sierra right over top of itself and it should fix that. Make a backup first just to be safe.

It looks like one of the system icons, with SIP in macOS Sierra it is not possible to delete it from the Coretypes.bundle. Maybe the icon is damaged in the cache. You could try to start up your Mac in safe mode (hold the Shift key while restarting your Mac). By starting in safe mode the system rebuilt it caches and hopefully the damaged icon is replaced.
