I received an email on my iPhone but when I tried to open it I apparently left the cell network and it couldn't download the message.

Since then the email opens into a "This message has not been downloaded from the server." message.

I am now back within network range and the Web browser works. How can I force the mail program to download the message? It looks like the mail program has decided that the message has not been downloaded and hence will not be downloaded ever.

Tapping the circle-arrow button makes the email program check for new email but it doesn't change the existing one email. And opening that email and tapping the circle-arrow button doesn't do anything.

How do I force the mail program on the iPhone to download the message?

The only thing that I could think to try is to delete the email account on your iPhone and set it up again. That might not work, but it's the only way that I can see.

Sounds ridiculously complicated. My email account has hundreds of MB of emails and the iPhone has synced many of them.

Anyway, I found a way. I forward the email to myself.

Still, it's ridiculous that the iPhone, once it decides that an email hasn't be downloaded, sticks to the decision.

I usually refresh or go back in later. Always seems to fix itself on my iPhone. :)

If you go back and open a different message, then try your first message again, it will try to download your new email again.
